RED LIGHT NEW MUSIC

liam robinson
Liam Robinson is a composer and performer living in New York City. His compositions for vocal, solo, chamber, and orchestral settings have been performed in New York, Minneapolis, Boston, and Toronto. The works often deal with a relationship with text or other external stimuli, including theatrical, sculptural and installation elements. He is constantly working with the delicate balance between an attraction to external association and a dedication to pure sound.

As a pianist, accordionist, and vocalist, Liam has appeared at the Tenri Cultural Institute, The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, Nuyorican Poet's Café, The Bowery Poetry Club, The Stone, Barbés, The 55 Bar, and the Cornelia Street Café, playing with Jean Rohe, the Becca Stevens Band, the Myk Freedman Suit, and as a solo performer. He can be heard on the acclaimed debut of the Becca Stevens Band, Tea Bye Sea and the recent release by Jean Rohe, Lead Me Home. As an ensemble member, Liam seeks to create a musical adhesive with his accompaniment, and even treats "soloing" as an opportunity for collective focus rather than personal flourish.

Raised in Wisconsin, Liam currently resides at International House, NYC, where he recently completed a year as Artist in Residence. In this role, Liam focused his resources and skills towards education in folk music, using the 700 member community as a model for international outreach and cross-cultural exchange. Each program was interactive and included instructional and participatory performances of folk songs and dances from the United States and around the globe.
